CATCO2NVERS - Prototype manufactured and installed
HYSYTECH ha sucessfully manufactured and installed a TRL5 prototype at Perseo Biotechnology, in Valencia, Spain, as part of the European CATCO2NVERS project (UE H2020). This milestone marks a significant step forward in scaling up two innovative thermocatalytic processes aimed at converting CO2 into value-added chemicals.
The prototype will enable the scale-up of the following key reactions:
- Conversion of CO2 and furfural to furan dicarboxylic methyl ester (FDME), developed by CSIC. FDME is a promising bio-based compound used in the production of high-performance, sustainable polymers, resins and other materials that serve as alternatives to traditional petroleum-derived products.
- Conversion of CO2 and fatty acids to cyclic carbonate fatty acid methyl esters (CCFAMEs), developed by Funditec. CCFAMEs are versatile intermediates for the synthesis of bio-based chemicals and materials, including surfactants, lubricants, and biodegradable plastics.
During the installation, commissioning and training phases, HYSYTECH engineers collaborated closely with the technology developers from CSIC and Funditec, fostering a strong synergy that contributed to the successful deployment of the prototype. Notably, this marks the first time both technologies have been tested at the liter scale, showcasing their potential in a real-world setting.
This achievement underscores HYSYTECH's ongoing commitment to advancing sustainable chemical technologies and supporting the decarbonization of the chemical industry. It also represents a key step in bridging the gap between laboratory research and industrial implementation of innovative solutions.
