DECADE: beyond the current limitations in PEC systems

DECADE: beyond the current limitations in PEC systems

The first year of the DECADE project (EU H2020) has been celebrated in an on-line meeting on May 25th, in which the partners presented the progress made so far.

Within DECADE, a new photo-electrocatalytic (PEC) approach is implemented for the conversion of CO2 avoiding water oxidation as anodic reaction to overcome the current limitations in PEC systems and to maximize effective energy utilization. The proposed PEC system will convert sunlight, carbon dioxide and bioethanol into ethyl acetate and ethyl formate, to be used as drop-in green solvent or as octane booster fuel component.

HYSYTECH is the leader of Work Package 5, that deals with the scale-up, design and construction of the final TRL5 prototype. HYSYTECH, with the partners' support, will design and manufacture the final photo-electrocatalytic reactor for the production of ethyl acetate and ethyl formate from CO2.
