METHAREN - Biomethane from renewable energy sources

On the 2nd and 3rd of April the Metharen project (EU Horizon Europe) consortium convened in Sion, Switzerland, hosted by the project partner EPFL.

The project aims to produce biomethane compliant with the natural gas grid specification by using a biowaste gasification system, a solid oxide electrolyzer and a methanation system.

During the meeting the partners shared updates on the project of each core technology. The next phase of the project includes finalizing detailed engineering, completing the procurement of all components, and beginning the manufacturing of the first units for the demonstration plant.

HYSYTECH is contributing to the process design and development and will lead the construction and installation of the prototype at the ACEA Pinerolese Industriale project partner site. The plant is scheduled for installation in Q1 2026.
