HYSYTECH R&D: ALCHEMHY starts, pilot plant commissioned for MICROBIOCHP

MICROBIOCHP

On November 5th e 6th, the MICROBIOCHP consortium, after two years of work, convened at HYSYTECH's premises.

The MICROBIOCHP project (EU Horizon Europe) aims at the integration of a gasifier and a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) for the simultaneous production of heat and electricity to be implemented for residential buildings, presenting a cost-effective energy solution for apartment complexes.

HYSYTECH's role involves developing a compact, high temperature gas cleaning system to remove HCl \ H2S and supporting the development for heat exchangers for process integration.

A significant milestone was achieved with the commissioning of the pilot plant at BIOS, the project coordinator's facilities. Initial testing results are promising, and the next phase will aim to optimize the control system and individual components.

ALCHEMHY

On November 6th e 7th, the KoM of the new Horizon Europe project ALCHEMHY was held in Zaragoza (Spain), at the CIRCE'S headquarters.

The project's main goal is developing alternatives routes for basic chemicals production using hydrogen as feedstock. The routes studied wtihin the project regard the production of Ammonia and methanol as fuels and hydrogen carriers.

HYSYTECH will be responsible of designing and constructing the four prototypes of the project through novel emerging technologies:

1. direct electrochemical synthesis of ammonia through Solid Oxide Electrochemical Cell (SOFC);

2. novel induction heated and high efficiency thermal reactor for Ammonia synthesis;

3. optimized thermal reactor for methanol synthesis;

4. novel plasma methanol synthesis.
