SUNCOCHEM - Towards the final TRL5 prototype

SUNCOCHEM - Towards the final TRL5 prototype

On the 18th and 19th of April the consortium of the SUNCOCHEM project (EU H2020) met in Amsterdam at the Avantium premises for the meeting of the M48.

The outcomes from the TRL4 prototype experimental campaign were shared and discussed. HYSYTECH will employ these outcomes in optimizing the final TRL5 prototype to convert CO2 into oxo-products, that is being built and will be installed and commissioned at Eurecat Amposta next summer.

The meeting was also an interesting opportunity for UNE to host the standardization workshop about the results and products generated within the project.

The self-biased photo-electrochemical reactor prototype will be used to convert three different important chemical precursors (limonene, butene e formaldehyde) into high-added value products (LimoxalTM, Valeraldehyde e glycolic acid), using waste CO2 from industrial flue gases and solar energy sources.

LimoxalTM is a fragrance ingredient produced by the project partner IFF, Valeraldehyde is a flavor ingredient produced by the project partner DOW, instead glycolic acid, a large used building block in the chemical industry, is of interest of the project partner Avantium and will be used for several applications like dying and tanning (textile), flavoring agent (food) and emulsion additive.
