FRESH - Starts the experimental campaign
On June 5th, HYSYTECH hosted the 36-month meeting of the FRESH project (EU H2020) at its premises. The experimental campaign to be conducted at HYSYTECH is about to begin. During the meeting, HYSYTECH presented the progress made in the construction and commissioning of the three prototypes: the CO2 electroliyzer, the Direct Formate Fuel Cell and the electrodialysis unit.
In addition, the latest results from the Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA) and Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) were shared. These analyses will be further refined based on data collected during the upcoming FRESH demonstration campaign.
Furthermore, on June 6th, the FRESH consortium held the 2nd workshop related to CO2 capture and utilization. The workshop was organized in collaboration with Politecnico di Torino and other Horizon projects were also invited to show their technologies and results. FRESH partners -and SUNCOCHEM, ECO2FUEL and CAPTUS projects, together with companies like Cleos, Rina, De Nora and Snam- were sharing insights regarding new emerging technologies for CO2 capture and utilization.
HYSYTECH had a talk related to the different technologies developed in the R&D projects related to CCU technologies, with particular focus on CO2 electroreduction towards formate.
The FRESH project aims at the production of potassium formate from CO2 by exploiting a technology developed by one of the partners, COVAL, and its subsequent use in the Direct Formate Fuel Cell (DFFC) to produce energy.
HYSYTECH collaborates with COVAL and CNR in the scale-up of the technology and will develop and build-up the entire final system for energy production.
